Archbishop Luc Terlinden of Mechelen-Brussels, president of the Belgian Bishops’ Conference, attended the opening Eucharist of the Catholic University of Leuven on 16 September. He took a seat in the front row at St Peter's Church in Leuven.
During this Novus Ordo, verses from
the Quran (26:69–70) were chanted in Arabic. The liturgy also included
contributions from the Jewish, Protestant and Anglican communities. A
university representative informed AdVaticanum that the University
Parish's decision to incorporate interreligious contributions had been
made "in consultation with the Rectorate and the Flemish bishops".
The Eucharist was presided over by Jesuit Fr Jacques Haers.
