The Catholic parish St. Dionysius in Herne, Archdiocese of Paderborn, Germany, hosted a Harry Potter–themed ecumenical service on February 28, drawing about 400 attendees.
The church was decorated with elements from the novels, including tables representing the "Hogwarts" houses. The audience arrived in costume.
Themed activities such as a Platform 9¾ photo area and butterbeer drinks were offered. During the service, candles were lit with a "magic wand," and passages from the Harry Potter books were read alongside biblical texts.
