The attack was carried out in response to the incursion of Ukrainian terrorists into the Russian province of Bryansk.
Russian troops on Thursday carried out a "massive attack" on Ukraine's critical infrastructure in response to the incursion of Ukrainian terrorists into Russian territory, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
"In response to the terrorist acts organized by the Kiev regime in Bryansk oblast on March 2 this year, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out a massive retaliatory strike," the Defense statement reads.
He stressed that "the goal of the attack has been achieved". With the use of high-precision and long-range air, sea and ground weapons, including the Kinzhal hypersonic missile system, it was possible to reach key elements of the Ukrainian military infrastructure, defense enterprises and industrial complexes, as well as energy facilities that provide them with electricity.
As a result of the attack, drone bases have been destroyed, the transfer of stocks and rail transport of foreign weapons has been disrupted. In addition, facilities for the repair of military equipment and the production of ammunition have been destroyed.
Last Thursday, a group of saboteurs crossed the border into Ukraine and broke into the Russian province of Bryansk, killing two people and injuring a 10-year-old boy.
The unit that took responsibility for the raid, described by Russian President Vladimir Putin as a "terrorist act", is the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) whose ranks include Russians fighting on the Ukrainian side.
